So I wanted to start a little series talking about some underrated makeup brands that are out there. The first brand is Essence Cosmetics. From what I know, this brand is only available in Ulta and if you want to talk about affordable, these things are affordable. At the Ulta I shop at, they only have a small end-cap dedicated to this brand and it’s easy to overlook because it looks like “play” makeup. The signage is colorful and fun looking and even some of the products remind me of things from the LipSmacker line (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
When it comes to cheaper products, I’m usually very hesitantI think naturally in our minds low price = poor quality. Luckily we’ve had brands that smashed those thoughts. Brands like e.l.f., Wet n Wild, L.A. Girl, Colour Pop, etc. They’ve all showed us that quality can come at an affordable price.
I feel like Essence is the middle ground when we’re looking at affordable brands, in my mind. I feel like they’re products aren’t as cheap ($1-$2), but they’re not over ($6-$7). The products that I’ve tried haven’t been extremely disappointing and I’ve been able to make them work. I mean, at a low price, I don’t mind working with the product a little.
Their range of products is really good too! They have nail polishes, mascara, eyeliner, bronzer, highlighter, different eyeshadows/finishes, palettes, etc. There are so many products to choose from!
I’ve truly enjoyed their long lasting lipstick and their waterproof felt tip eyeliner. Recently I’ve picked up more items from the line, but I do want to go back to Ulta and pick up more. With all the products that I’ve tried I’ve been pretty impressed. I think the only things that were lack-luster to me were their Metal Glam eyeshadows. It’s not that they’re bad, I just wanted more of a metallic finish to them.
I definitely hope you guys try out some of their products. Like I said, I really enjoy the products that I have. Please stay tuned for first impressions and reviews of the products I have!
