[WORKING GIRL’S GUIDE] Neutral Lips For Work

Hi everybody hope you had a great weekend! I’m back with another addition to my Working Girl’s Guide series, and today I’m talking about neutral lips. I have a variety of lip products that are great for when you want to wear a neutral lip color to the office. You honestly can never go wrong with a neutral lip, however there are so many different neutral lip colors and formulas to choose from! Here are my picks.

LIPSTICKS:

WGG - LIPS - 2

From left to right is: Rimme’s Pink Dazzle, Flirt’s Dainty, Essence’s Natural Beauty, and Maybelline’s Prosperous Mauve.

When it comes to neutrals, I personally try to stay within the pink family, but the Maybelline lipstick is the only lipstick that I enjoy wearing on a daily basis that has a brown tint to it. When it comes to picking out pinks, I look for colors that have a mauve/gray undertone to them. For some reason it works a lot better on my lips than just a straight pink or a straight nude. The Flirt lipstick comes off a little too light for my liking so I tend to sheer it out. However, all of these colors are great for daily use. I mainly use lipsticks when I just want something that’s quick to apply and I don’t have to worry about maintaining the color.

TINTED BALMS/SHEER COLORS

WGG - LIPS - 3

From left to right: L’Oreal le balm in Electric Pink, Maybelline’s whispers in Rose of Attractions, Maybelline’s Baby Lips Dr. Rescue in Berry Sorbet, and Essence Sheer and Shine Lipstick in Baby Love.

WGG - LIPS - 6

As you can see all of these have a very sheer tint to them. These options are great for those of you who don’t like wearing full opaque colors on your lips or you want something extremely low maintenance. I love the Maybe Dr. Rescue because it has like the menthol feel to it and it also hydrates my lips. The others are great to throw on when I just want a sheer wash of color. Again these are sticking with the pink and berry family which complements practically everybody’s skin tone.

STAINS/LONG-WEAR

WGG - LIPS - 4

From left to right is Jordana’s Twist and Shine in Honey Love, Revlon’s Balm Stain in Honey, Milani’s Amore Matte Lip Creme in Beloved, NYX’s Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Tea and Cookies, and Revlon’s Ultra HD Lip Color in HD Devotion.

L-R Jordana Twist and Shine in Honey Love, Revlon Balm Stain in Honey, Revlon’s HD Ultra Lipcolor in HD Devotion, NYX’s Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Tea and Cookies, and Milani’s Amore Matte Lip Creme in Beloved

I use these products when I want stay all day color or when I have events that I need to go to. Again, we see a theme with the pinks, mauves, berry, and browns. These are great when you just need to have the color there all day and you can be bothered with reapplication or you need something that fades away slowly. My absolute favorite out of all of these right now is the Revlon Ultra HD Lipcolor in HD Devotion. I love this color because it fades to a nice pinky nude that matches any eye look. However, I typically find myself reaching for the balm stains (Jordana and Revlon). They’re very similar to each other, but I love the fact that both pull the natural red tones in my lip and they create it’s own unique little color.

Overall, when it comes to finding neutral lip colors that are office appropriate, you need to figure out:

  • what type of formula you’re looking for, and
  • what undertones do you want

When you figure those out, you can help narrow it down and have your own go-to collection. Though I love my lipsticks and stains, I tend to stick to balms and tints a lot more because they’re hydrating and easy to apply.

At the end of the day, neutrals are extremely appropriate and easy to wear to the office because they’re widely accepted and most of the colors are “my lips but better” colors. There’s nothing to wild or outrageous about them.

I hope this guide helps you discover some new go-to favorites!

XOXO,
