Hi hi hi!
If you follow me on Instagram (ciaociao808) you would have seen me post a picture featuring these new color tattoos from Maybelline. I was definitely excited because it was all chrome and I love basically chrome anything for the eyes. When I saw it in stores, I knew I had to pick one up.
Pigmentation: This definitely has a lot of pigment to it. It’s almost like a concentrated pigment. The only things I noticed was that during application the chrome effect was lost so you ended up with a more dark/matte purple instead a chrome purple with a coppery shift (how it looks like in the tube) and it applied extremely patchy. It seemed like the more I applied to even things out, the patchier it became.
Texture: It is a cream product and applies like any other cream product. It’s smooth to the touch and light weight.
Longevity: This particular color has great staying power. Once it dries down it does not budge at all. I have to use two different makeup removers to get this off my lids when I use it.
Blendability: This is the area where I run into problems with this. It dries so fast that I don’t have time to blend it at all. Even when I add another layer on, I either end up making it look extremely patchy or it dries down too quick. Like I said once it dries, this thing doesn’t budge which makes blending it out impossible.
Overall Grade: D
I love Maybelline and I want to fall in love with all the products Maybelline comes out with, but for this particular color this formula just doesn’t work. I can see it working if you want to go for the grunge look or the “I fell asleep in my makeup” look. Other than those options, it just leaves your lids looking patchy and unblended – which is not my style. I really wanted this to work out because I thought it would be my answers to an easy metallic smokey eye, but it ended up being more trouble than I would like to deal with.
If you’re interested in trying out this product, I highly suggest going for the lighter shades that way you don’t have to really worry about blending out the color. The lighter shades would probably be really good for those who don’t want to fuss to much with their makeup. If you’re going to go for just a brightening look I say find a lighter shade that is close to your skin tone.
