Hi hi hi!
I know what you may be thinking – great here’s a negative review on another one of Maybelline’s Color Tattoo Chrome, well let me shock you all by saying that this particular color is one that I can get behind.
If you didn’t check out my first review on the color tattoo chrome in Sharp Purple, click here to read the post or click here to watch my first impression. If you did check out my post and/or saw my video, you’ll know that I wasn’t impressed at all. I just had such a difficult time working with the product and getting it to apply evenly. It definitely is not what you want with a cream eyeshadow. However, I had a feeling that this particular formula would work great with the lighter colors. So I went ahead and picked up bronze sheen to give it a try and let me say, I am pretty impressed.
This particular color is a warm bronze/brown gold with golden shimmer.
The packaging is very similar to a lip gloss tube and it even has a doe-foot applicator. You can apply the product straight to your lids, or use a brush or finger to apply it. However, I would say it’s best to either use it straight from the doe-foot applicator or from your fingers. I found that when I used a brush it wasn’t as intense/pigmented.
I said it before in my previous review on the formula – this sucker stays on. I have oily lids and even after 10+ hour days, my eyeshadow primer does breakdown from all the grease, but this didn’t budge. On most days, I honestly wear my makeup for about 13-14 hours and a lot of the times I run errands after work or go out to eat with my family so I really want my makeup to last and this does the job.
Like I said the formula on this has great staying power, but here are some things to keep in mind. For this particular color I found it to be more wet/moist (I know some people hate that word) than the darker formula. I also noticed that it didn’t dry as quickly as the darker color (Sharp Purple) which gave me some time to blend it out. If you watched my first impression of the other color Sharp Purple, you would have seen how difficult it was for me to blend out and how quickly it dried. However, I did notice that when this particular color dried, I could kind of feel it tugging at my eyes, which is similar to the darker color. The best results came when I applied the color, blended out the edges and let it dry with my eyes closed. This way it decreased the amount of tug I felt on my lids.
Surprisingly when it’s still a little wet it blends out pretty well. I do notice some edges that don’t blend out as well as others, but I believe that it’s mainly because the thinner layers dry quicker than the thicker layers. However, once it’s set, it can be difficult to blend any other color on top of it.
Overall Grade: A
I think this is a great product for the girl on the go. It’s quick and doesn’t budge once it’s set. Believe it or not, I actually like this a lot better than their original Color Tattoos that come in the pot! I feel like the pot formula is a lot drier and can be difficult to build an opaque layer. If you have oily lids, then I do suggest to use some type of primer underneath because it’ll keep the oils from breaking down the formula quicker.
This particular color is great for an easy look and you really only need this and a crease color and you have an easy everyday look. The only downside to this product is that it can be difficult to create more intricate looks, but you can definitely work with it. It doesn’t have the full on chrome effect, it does have a shimmery finish that adds a little sparkle to a neutral look.
The only thing that I haven’t tried doing is working with this on top of an eyeshadow, like a matte black or a warm chocolate brown. I think it would be a great addition to a matte smokey look and would pair perfectly with any neutral look.
