Review - Tarte's TarteGuard

I have talked about this many times in my favorites and Summer vacation essentials, but I have yet to post an actual review on this! It’s important to invest in sunscreen especially when it comes to your face. It will slow down the aging process and also help prevent skin cancer. *Keep in mind, I have combo-oily skin – I get extremely oily around my nose area, but I have some dry patches on the outer perimeters of my face. Also, on an everyday basis I use this under a foundation and on top of my moisturizer.* Let’s jump into the review!

Underneath my makeup, this definitely lasts all day. You may be wondering, “If it’s under your makeup, how do you know it lasts all day?” Good question. I have used sunscreens in the past that will ball up after a couple hours after being under my makeup, there’s just little balls of foundation/powder/sunscreen on random parts of my face.

When you rub it between your fingers, it feels pretty lightweight. It’s not as heavy as a moisturizer would feel. Once you apply it to your face, there’s a little pull/tug to the product, but once your rub it in, you have a pretty smooth canvas to work with. Once I put it on, I let it sit for a little bit and I work on my brows and eyes – when I go back to working on my face, the product has sunken into my skin and I don’t feel any tackiness. Once I apply my foundation, my skin looks smooth and none of my dry patches are accentuated.

I have been using this for about a month (if not longer) and I have to say I haven’t noticed a difference in terms of how my foundation/face products perform, but I do notice that my skin hasn’t been getting tanner. Though I don’t spend much time in the sun, there are some days that I do and though the rest of my body becomes tan, my face has stayed the same. I also like the fact that it didn’t affect my skin – I didn’t find that it broke me out or irritated my skin. My skin can be sensitive to certain products and I have broken out before due to products, but it’s not extremely sensitive. Throughout the day, I don’t notice any of my face products balling up or cracking.

I definitely think this is a product worth checking out. It’s important to invest into some type of sun protectant for your face because the skin on your face is extremely fragile and prone to sunburns. I love how lightweight it is and how it just melds with my skin. It doesn’t affect the way my foundation performs and I usually rotate through 4-5 different foundations and all the foundations perform the same on top of this product compared to using them on it’s own. The only thing that I have a problem with is the fact that the product packaging is pretty bulky, so it makes it a little tricky to travel with. They do sell a smaller size, but I just wish that the original size would come in a more travel friendly container.
