Hi hi hi!
I received this beautiful set from my coworkers for my birthday and I wanted to share it with you all because I thought it was such a great set for the holiday season! Interested? Check out the rest of my review!
What It Is:
The set of 8 mini Audacious lipsticks is encased in a beautiful case and retails for $125. In collaboration with photographer Sarah Moon, the lipstick set captures the timelessness and class of reds and neutrals. In the set you have 2 neutrals, 4 reds, and 2 burgundy colors.
- Sarah: brown tone nude | cream
- Anita: soft dusty rose nude | cream
- Marlene: orange based red | cream
- Rita: true red | cream
- Olivia: deep red | cream
- Sandra: muted red | cream
- Charlotte: deep burgundy (darkest of the set) | cream
- Bette: burgundy/oxblood red | cream
Though majority of the colors are pigmented, I do have to work with some of the colors (Charlotte and Bette) to get an even layer. They are the darkest colors in the set and usually the darker colors, well the ones I’ve tried in the past, are usually difficult to work with. I did notice that the lightest color (Sarah) applied a little patchy, but after working in the color I was able to get an even application.
These may be regular lipsticks, but they are so pigmented that they can last for a really long time. I apply 1 thin layer and I use my ring finger to really rub the color into my lips and then I apply one more thin layer on top. When I use this for other lipsticks, I find that I tend to lose color in the middle of my lips, but these colors usually lasts for about 4-5 hours with drinking and light eating. After I eat lunch, I definitely need to reapply, but I can just dab the color on; I don’t need to do a full application.
All the lipsticks have a smooth and moisturizing feel to them, however, it needs the natural warmth of your lips to make it emollient. I didn’t have a texture issue with any of the colors surprisingly, which is really impressive.
Surprisingly I have a huge issue with the shape of the lipstick. For some reason, I can never get a clean application. I try to angle the lipstick in so many different ways and maneuver it, but nothing seems to work. At first I thought it was just me, but when I switched to other regular lipsticks, I had no problems applying it. I think it’s the flat edge on the bottom of the lipstick that makes it difficult to apply, but even when I use the rounded/pointed areas I still get the color everywhere! I resorted to applying the color, using my ring finger to blend the color in and also using it to clean up the edges. It’s seriously a pain, but I love the formulation, it’s worth it.
If only the application was smoother, I think this definitely would have scored either a 9 or a 10, but it’s just not practical when it comes to the way I need to apply it. I usually apply my lipstick/color in the car (I know it’s bad, but trust me, I always time it with the stoplights), but I have to apply this color at home and the clean up process can be so tedious. Other than that, I love how moisturizing it feels on the lips and it’s so lightweight.
Keep in mind, especially if you’re giving this as a gift, this set is made up of mainly reds. There are only 2 colors that aren’t in the red family. This may not appeal to everyone, but if you know someone who loves to wear a red lip or loves to experiment with different colors, I think this may be right up their alley and they also receive a great storage case that doubles as an art piece. I think the price is a little much for just the lipsticks, but the storage case is extremely heavy-duty and has some weight to it, which means you will pay more.
