Best Makeup of 2016

Best of 2016

Hi Hi Hi!

This year I was able to find some amazing products that I have added to my holy grail list. I wanted share with all of you my top picks for 2016 in terms of makeup products. I will share some other top products of 2016 in a separate post, so for today I wanted to focus on beauty products.

Tarte | TarteGuard
I always wanted to incorporate some type of sunscreen into my morning routine, but I could never find one that I liked. Some would feel way too tacky and others would have a harsh in person white-cast. I love this because it’s so light and it just effortlessly blends on to my skin without feeling tacky and without a harsh white-cast. I also love the fact that it doesn’t have a sunscreen scent to it – to be honest I hate the smell of sunscreen and that’s why I choose to not wear it, but this doesn’t smell anything like sunscreen. It does have a light scent to it, but I can’t smell it once I have it on. I am so thrilled to have found this product and it seriously is amazing!

MAC x Nordstrom | ‘Nordstrom Naturals’ Palette
I received this from my aunty as a graduation present when I got my “four year” (technically five year) degree and I was extremely excited to start using it. I had always heard amazing things about MAC eyeshadows and up to that point I had 2 MAC eyeshadows and I really love them. MAC has different versions of this palette and I think they are all great values for any makeup lover. What I love most about this palette is that it has a ton of natural colors that can be used everyday and I really do find myself reaching for it everyday. It could be for something as simple as a brow bone highlight or even a brow color. I just love the quality, selection, and design of the whole palette.

Colourpop x Hello Kitty Highlighter | School Is Fun
The highlighter that I have fallen in love with is not the one that is pictured, but if you click the link it should take you to my favorite highlighter, unless it’s sold out. However, I do really love the Colourpop highlighters because they provide this subtle glow which I have found myself gravitating towards instead of a full-on highlight. I love how the formula feels so light weight and looks light weight. It is a different type of product than what most people are used to because it’s not an actual powder nor is it a liquid. It’s just very different from anything that’s on the market (besides Lacome’s version which came out a few months ago). This is just an outstanding highlighter and I am absolutely OBSESSED with it.

Clinique | Beyond Perfecting Foundation
I’m really not sure how many times I’ve mentioned how much I love this foundation, but let me mention it again – I LOVE this foundation! It provides an even finish with medium coverage and the best part is that it doesn’t feel heavy at all. It feels so lightweight on my skin that sometimes, I forget I’m wearing anything! It holds up through every single season and I really don’t have to worry about it doing anything weird throughout the day. *It’s important to note that I always set my foundation with a light dusting of pressed powder*

Kat Von D | Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Lolita)
You would think that with all the lip products I have tried this year I would have picked something newer, but nope, I’m sticking with my old faithful which is Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita. This is my go-to lippie no matter what type of eye look I have going on and when I need something quick, this is my old faithful. I do really like this formulation (even though it does feel a bit tacky as it dries) because it stays put all day and when it does fade, it doesn’t turn into a weird color. It’s a dependable color/formula that I know I can always use without worrying about it.

MAC | Mineralize Blush (Warm Soul)
Warm Soul is a pretty basic blush color, but I have been reaching for it everyday since I bought it. When I initially swatched it in store, I wasn’t blown away by it, but I did want a neutral blush so I decided to go ahead and pick it up.¬†What I love most is that it brings life back to my face and it literally matches with any look I do. This blush works with almost every skin tone and it’s such a neutral blush – it just looks so natural on.

Stila | Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
I believe I have mentioned it before – my eyelids are wonky because I have scars on my lash line from cysts I had when I was younger. The scars make it extremely difficult to wear a variety of eyeliner because it always smudges. I have found very few liquid eyeliners that don’t smudge on my lash line, but this beats all of those other eyeliners. Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner has such a fine felt tip that it can get into the inner corners and it allows me to have a ton of control when it comes to the thickness of the line. Just like the name says, this particular eyeliner does stay on all day without budging.

Essence | Pure NUDE Highlighter
I haven’t had this particular product for long, but I can tell you that from the very first time I used it, I knew it was love. It is the most natural glowy highlighter that I have used, but it just provides the most natural glow which I love. It provides a golden glow that just brings a little warmth to my face. Don’t expect an actual highlight like one from Becca Cosmetics, this is a subtle glow.

e.l.f. | Eyebrow Pencil
Towards the ending of this year I started to get into using a pencil to fill in my brows. Originally I used to use eyeshadows to fill in my brows, but they always seemed so light and I never really got the definition I wanted. I decided to try e.l.f.’s eyebrow pencil because it was extremely affordable and it was easily accessible (available at Target). I use two different colors (taupe and neutral brown), neutral brown to define underneath my brows and the tail of my brows and taupe to fill in the rest. It’s extremely easy to use and I like that the pencil isn’t extremely thin, where it takes forever to fill in and it’s not too thick, where I just don’t have control. It’s a perfect middle ground for me and I an achieve the look I want.

I hope you all enjoyed this post! Let me know what your favorite products of 2016 was – I’m always interested in trying out new things. Also, I apologize for the lack of posts and for failing Blogmas, but what can I say, my full-time job took a lot out of me. I hope you guys had a great holiday season. Stay tune for my favorite things of 2016!
