Urban Decay | VICE Liquid Lipstick | Rapture

Hi hi hi!

Welcome back to another review! Can you believe we’re already in February?! Anyhow I wanted to share my review of Urban Decay’s VICE Liquid Lipstick in Rapture since Valentine’s Day is coming up and I’m sure some of you may be looking for a new long-lasting lippie ;D photo F72B9E89-51CB-480D-9157-F2AE0B8A6223.jpg

What is it?: “This is Vice Liquid Lipstick—a waterproof formula so life-proof, it’s not going ANYWHERE until you take it off. (Just imagine the possibilities.) What makes Vice different? Our high-tech formula provides longer-lasting wear with ZERO transfer. Like our original formula, Vice Liquid Lipstick lays down intensely pigmented color. And the comfortable, nondrying wear sets it apart from other liquid lipsticks.” – UrbanDecay.com

Thoughts:

This particular color is in the comfort matte formula. It’s a dusty rose that has a pretty neutral undertone. It is your typical matte liquid lipstick – the formula reminds me a lot of Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. You can feel the product drying on your lips and much like KVD’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, there’s a slight tackiness to the product as it dries. However, there is no tugging on your lips and it’s a flexible formula so it moves easily with your lips.

The wand is plastic and the doe-foot applicator is a lot longer than your typical liquid lip product (i.e. lip stains, lip glosses, etc.). The longer applicator allows for an easier application and I find it pretty easy to get into the inner corners of my lips. I don’t find that it carries too much product on the applicator, but I do end up wiping off some of the excess off. It applies pretty evenly, but I do have to go back and add a second layer – which I never have to do with KVD’s liquid lipstick.

Like most matte liquid lipsticks, I can’t wear this more than two days in a row. In fact, on the second day, my upper lip ended up cracking and bleeding. I always moisturize my lips at night, but I think this just dried them out too much. Once the product is off, my lips don’t feel overly chapped which is surprising considering the formula is pretty drying while it’s on.

It lasts all day and held up pretty well after I ate greasy foods (pad thai). Even when I would dab my lips on my napkin, I saw very minimal transfer. I did have to apply my Jack Black Lip Balm throughout the day, but I found that even that didn’t really add much moisture back to my lips.

Ranking:

Pigmentation: 8/10

Longevity: 10/10

Texture: 9/10

Application: 8/10

Overall: 8.75/10

Though this is a long lasting product, it is very drying on the lips which isn’t different from any other liquid lipstick. I would say that you may run into issues with the actual pigmentation of the product – you may need more than one layer for an opaque application. If you have very sensitive lips, I would say that this may be something you would want to pass on especially if you haven’t had any luck with liquid lipsticks. This follows the same formulation and will leave your lips feeling dry.

Wearing Rapture – one layer. You can see that some of my natural lip color is peeking through.
