[DIY] Makeup Travel Kit

DIY Travel Kit

Hi hi hi!

I hope you guys are doing well today – so continuing off of my last post, I decided to show you how to create your own DIY Travel Makeup Kit. This would be an awesome gift to give all your friends and you can really customize it. I wanted to share a quick glimpse to what I would put in a travel makeup kit for any of my friends and at the end I will share some cost saving ideas.

Urban Decay – All Day All Night Travel Spray Duo – $19.00

First things first, I had to include my favorite makeup setting spray (Urban Decay All Nighter) and another amazing spray from Urban Decay, their Quick Fix Complexion Prep Priming Spray. Personally, I haven’t tried second spray, but like I mentioned, the All Nighter is my OG holy grail. This spray is great for anyone and can be used anywhere at any time. I love having a travel size with me because it helps me freshen up my makeup and it’s extremely convenient to have.

AOA Clear Makeup Pouch – Donuts – $1.00

Shop MissA has some of the cutest things and I found this clear makeup pouch on their website for only $1! How amazing is that deal?! I love the thought about having a makeup pouch that’s clear and easy to clean because you never know when you’re going to lose your lipstick cap and have lipstick every where (true story). The glory of this is that you can easily clean it and you don’t have to worry about products staining it. There are multiple designs available and I’m telling you for only $1 – I’m definitely considering putting a couple of these together for my friends.

Bite Beauty – The Perfect Bite – Amuse Bouche Lipstick Set – $25.00

I LOVE MINI LIP PRODUCTS! Mini lip products are amazing because they are easy to work through and you don’t feel too bad if you don’t use it all. I picked this particular set because Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche lipsticks are some of the best lipsticks on the market. They’re creamy, pigmented, but they don’t feel like anything on your lips. I purchased a set similar to this last holiday season and I loved it. The range of colors are perfect for anyone and would be great to keep in a travel kit because you can switch up a look from day time to night time with a bold lip color, which this kit offers. If you want to stretch your budget a little further, you can always split the set and give each person the color that matches them the most.

e.l.f. – Brush It Up Set – $10.00

I love e.l.f.’s brushes – they’re soft quality brushes that don’t cost an arm and a leg. I picked these brushes because these are great multi-purpose brushes. Included in the set is a powder brush, blush brush, small angled brush, and an eyeshadow “C” brush. These brushes can be used for so many things – the powder brush can be used for everything on your face and if they decide to keep it in their travel bag, they can easily powder their face or do any necessary touch ups. The blush brush, much like the powder brush, would be great for bronzers and highlighters in addition to being used for blush. The eye brushes are a little limiting, but it’ll be great to keep in the travel bag just in case they need to do any eyeliner touchups or pop on a brighter lid color for some fun.

e.l.f. – Mattifying Blotting Papers – $5.00

When I was in high school, I lived off of blotting papers and it’s something that can be used without having to worry about ruining any makeup. I much prefer to blot than to layer on more powder. A convenient little travel case like this is perfect to keep in any travel makeup kit. This particular paper also comes with an applicator sponge so you don’t have to worry about transferring any oils from your fingers onto your freshly blotted face.

AOA – Wonder Blender – $1.00

I purchased this blender from Shop MissA and it is absolutely amazing. I prefer this particular sponge over the beauty blender because it’s a little stiffer than the OG (BeautyBlender) sponge that everyone knows and love. The reason I would put this in is because a damp beauty blender can bring some life back to worn in under-eye concealer and at this price, it’s an amazing deal!

Urban Decay – NAKED Basics – $29.00

For a busy woman on the go, sometimes you just don’t have time to go home and freshen up your makeup. Urban Decay did an amazing job putting together a simple palette that can be used to create a variety of looks which makes it the perfect vacation palette! I would definitely use this palette to vamp up any look that I have by popping in a little bit of the black into my outer “V” and I would use the angled e.l.f. brush to just smoke out my eyeliner (or add on eyeliner). I would also use the taupe/browns to deepen my crease a little more to create a more sultry look.

BeautyBlender – Blotterazzi – $20.00

I know that this product seems ridiculous, but I think it’ll be great for someone who isn’t so worried about being too oily, but want to be able to freshen up their complexion. This can be used in combination with the Urban Decay sprays so freshen up anyone’s makeup. The nice part about it is that it’s reusable so you just have to clean it with soap and let it dry, then it’s good to go the next day.
If you’re looking at this thinking, this is great and all, but it’s way too costly. Which is a good point, but here are a couple of ways you can cut down the costs:
  • Split Sets: With the holidays, there are so many sets out there on the market and the great thing is that they can almost always be divided up. I mostly like to do these with lip sets that companies like Tarte, Buxom, and Stila come out with. There’s a wide variety of colors, in travel size, and you can find colors that will match almost everybody in your life.
  • Don’t Forget About The Drugstore! Remember the drugstore brands have stepped up their game and there are cheaper alternatives out there! You just have to be open minded and really do your research when it comes to what products are the best at the drugstore.
  • Quality Over Quantity: You don’t have to jam pack these makeup travel kits. You want them to be able to fill it with items that they want to carry as well! It’s okay if the kit is looking a little sparse, but as long as you have quality products in there that they can use, it’s definitely a win.
  • Be Picky: Really pick up items that you know that they will use and want to keep in their purse/bag. Don’t just pick up items just because. Be selective and really give them what they would use/want.

I hope this inspires you to create something personalized for your friends and family this year and provide them something that they can definitely use.
